Lisa Sandquist, Intern

I am grateful to be at New Life as an intern with opportunities to grow as a counselor. From a young age I have been drawn to people who need a listening and compassionate ear. I believe that the warm, empathetic presence of another person helps people heal and flourish. Having been helped by others in my own life journey, I hope to come alongside people with grace, truth, and practical tools to help them grow holistically.

I grew up in Waverly, Iowa and have lived in Minnesota, Singapore, and Colorado. I received my B.A. at Luther College with majors in psychology and religion. For many years I served alongside my husband in Christian ministry and had the joy of raising four children. I am currently completing an M.A. in counseling at the Townsend Institute at Concordia University Irvine. Through this program I am learning to help people address external struggles as well as underlying issues.

I have worked with a variety of cultures, ages, and issues, including children with special needs and people suffering with grief, anxiety, depression, addiction, and relational problems. I have also enjoyed helping people understand their strengths and prepare for marriage. My approach to counseling is shaped by my faith in Jesus Christ and love for the Bible. In my free time I enjoy reading, music, walking in nature, and spending time with our growing family.

I am open to seeing clients of all ages and backgrounds. It is my desire to create a safe space where you can be yourself, feel heard, and explore thoughts, behaviors, and feelings related to past experiences and current challenges. The counseling relationship will allow us to work together to reach your goals. I look forward to partnering with you in your journey.
