Lauren Merten, MS, T-LMHC

As a therapist, my greatest joy is helping children, teens, and families feel seen, supported, and empowered. Whether it’s working through anxiety, past trauma, or big life transitions, I offer a calm, compassionate space where clients can take a breath, be themselves, and begin to heal. I have a special passion for working with kids and adolescents, and I love connecting with young clients in a way that makes therapy feel safe, even fun.

With more than 8 years of experience in residential, community, crisis, and school-based settings, I’ve walked alongside families through many tough moments. I draw from several approaches depending on each person’s needs, including Play Therapy, Trust-Based Relational Intervention (TBRI), EMDR, ACT (Acceptance and Commitment Therapy), and elements of CBT and DBT. Whether we’re building trust through play or processing trauma through EMDR, my goal is to help clients strengthen their sense of self and find practical tools for growth and emotional balance.

I understand that faith can be an important part of healing for many people. If you'd like, we can include your spiritual beliefs in our work together. I believe healing often starts with connection, whether with others or within ourselves.

I earned my Bachelor’s degree in Psychology with an English minor from Iowa State University in 2017 and have completed my Master’s in Clinical Mental Health Counseling at Drake University in 2025. I grew up in Wisconsin and have called Iowa home for over a decade. Outside of the office, I enjoy quiet walks, biking, journaling, and cooking to 90’s country music. I’m currently planning my wedding with my fiancé, and we spend evenings relaxing with our active (and very cuddly) cat.

If you’re looking for a therapist who brings warmth, structure, and steady support, especially for your child or teen, I’d be honored to be part of your journey.
