Elijah Johnson, MA, T-LMHC

The burdens of life are often overwhelming, and the situations we are put in seem impossible to get through. My purpose is to be a supportive person that will listen to you share your struggles and help you to find meaning and purpose through them. Your story and struggle is unique, and I will offer tools, perspective, and most importantly, a listening and empathetic ear to help you through this difficult time. I will incorporate my faith in Christ in the counseling process if my clients desire and permit it.

I received my Bachelor’s of Arts in Psychology from Iowa State University in 2020. After valuable time spent working with a broad range of people in social work, including in psychiatric youth homes and with the homeless population of Des Moines, I felt called to pursue a degree in counseling. I received my Master’s in Clinical Mental Health Counseling from Buena Vista University in 2023, and I am overjoyed to be working as a therapist under the supervision of Dr. Gilbert.

I am honored to serve adolescents, adults, and couples through difficult circumstances. I tend to take a meaning-centered approach to therapy that does not shy away from difficult issues, including but not limited to: depression, anxiety, trauma, grief, addiction, life transitions, self-image, marital issues, and personality disorders.

I enjoy spending time and exploring the city with my wife, and we hope to travel the world together. You might also find me reading, writing, playing tennis, or watching a movie in my free time.
