Brooke Gehrke, Intern

“So that the servant of God may be thoroughly equipped for every good work.”
- 2 Timothy 3:17
As an intern at New Life Counseling, I offer a listening ear and compassionate support for individuals struggling with mental health challenges. I want to equip individuals to feel confident on how to face life’s challenges with God’s help. My faith in Jesus drives the work I do, as I desire to show Jesus’ love and care to those around me through counseling. The verse above has deep meaning to me, as I have felt God call me and He continues to equip me in various ways in my life to help others.
I have experience working with children, and found my love for helping children overcome emotional, mental and behavioral struggles. I was a Behavior Technician for children with Autism for 2 years, and enjoyed helping children improve their skills and reduce behaviors of concern. While in this role, I learned about the importance of helping children with emotional regulation and coping skills. I strive to help children overcome these challenges, and improve their overall mental health and well-being, while collaborating with parents.
I am working toward my master's degree in Clinical Mental Health Counseling at Grand View University, with a certificate in play therapy. I primarily work with children ages 3 and up, using play therapy and other techniques within my counseling approach. I’m willing to work with clients of all ages.
Outside of counseling, I enjoy spending time with my husband and dog. One of my favorite activities is visiting my parents' lake house in the summer to enjoy the lake. I also love doing crafts, spending time outside, and line dancing!
I would love to work with you to provide a safe space for you and work towards healing and prosperity in your life.
